STOOPER COMPUTER

Well, for those of you not "in the know", I've recently joined the ranks of "people who own computers made after Christ's death." When I got a nice chunk of change from my Virginia Beach trip, I decided to splurge and buy something hardly any programmers have: a recent computer.

Well, I have to tell ya, this "owning a computer that can run things" gig is pretty cool. Currently I have it dual booting between Gentoo and Win2k (need it for a few games). Jebus, it's sweet.

Of course, good tidings like these are not without their lining made of poop. Around the time I got this computer in, my intarweb connection decided to tank. I'm getting a good bit of packet loss and about 500ms ping times to my goddamned provider. This of course makes one the purposes of owning a new machine completely irrelevant: playing online games (which I have been known to do quite a bit of). We had the cable guy come out and he did say there was a problem not originating from our equipment or setup, and that he'd have to put in a request to replace the "mainline", but I wasn't home and the missus didn't bother asking what a "mainline" was, or "how long this might take." The crazy thing is, it will start working fine for hours at a time, just to get craptastic again before your very eyes. Oh well.

so apparently, when you tell entergy that you want to switch service over to your name, you have to explicitly tell them that you want both a steady stream of electrons and a steady stream of explosivo. because if you don't specify that, they'll just do whatver they want. and then cut your gas off on the day that it actually starts turning cold. gawd bless those retarded children they hire.

You're as cold as ice, and probably willing to sacrifice our love.

foo: Old games are great, for making me feel old.

Everyone: I hear the Bag O' double D-nuts are playing at the Matador tonight, but I have no idea how the crowd they attract are going to fit in there...

XP?
Yeah, you just go and get the fucking mark of the beast.

Want games? Buy a playstation 2.

Or run Mame. Or dosbox. Old games are better anyway.

Win2k? Use XP, it's better for games. And Cox is sometimes flakey. It'll just start acting up for days and then all the sudden work good for months.
