Ok, just to have a place that everyone I know can communicate, I'll post some info on what I know:

Cell phone usage is useless ANYWHERE in LA/MS. Text messaging seems to work perfectly. The water is continuing to rise in the city, a whole day after the storm. The water will be there for at least a week if not weeks. Now, here's what I know about our peeps.

  • Scott and Alison: Baton Rouge (I think), but they're ok.
  • Kim: Somewhere in Texas, but OK.
  • Jason, Rebs, and Jude: Went to Baton Rouge, then kept going to Shreveport to get farther away.
  • MC & Colleen: After saying he was going to stay, MC is now safe in Arkansas, and I ran into Colleen and PG on the street today here in Natchez, MS
  • Pete, Christine and Max: We texted Pete and he said he was OK in Vicksburg, I can only assume Max is with him, and Christine is either there as well, or at Touro where she's just as safe.
  • My Parents and Little Brother: Ok in Baton Rouge.
  • Feasty, Niki and Shane: My parents said Niki and Shane evac'd with her parents and Feasty was planning on staying. We haven't heard from them since before the storm.

Please check in and tell us what's happening.

Hey Scott, your house should be fine. John's stepfather had to stay in town, works for Jefferson water board, and he's been keeping an eye on John's mom's house, which is right by yours. Says they didn't get any water in that neighborhood. FYI.

Oh, and I found my house on a high res satellite image:

I believe the pile of tan crap back there is the remnants of my batshit neighbor's aluminum garage full of shit. The kicker is it looks like my and my neighbor across the street's carport roofs are underwater. Yay.

I know everyone's talking about permanent relocation, and rightly so, but I'm going to withhold judgement until things settle down a bit. Well, at the very least I'm going to wait until there isn't six feet of water in my house and Downtown isn't the wild - fucking - west.

say hello to my sister, jennifer up there in shreveport.
the idea of living in hammond, where we will be in a week or two, is making me sick to my stomach.

i think we're looking to head to baton rouge sometime in the next couple days. if nothing else, that's where all of our fema papers are being sent. i really hate to lose all you guys, but i do think that permanent relocation is probably the best idea and we're starting to feel out ideas of where we could stand to live. i know that natchitoches is a beautiful city (kind of like nola on a smaller scale). the idea of living in baton rouge kind of makes me sick to my stomach. i don't know. i just don't know.

if you don't already know, our house is right next to the old hammond highway levee that broke. our area got it pretty bad, you can see from the pictures.
matt and pete's area looks pretty bad too. sorry guys.
it's just unreal. rumor is that the marines are now in new orleans and fema has "bugged out" due to the scurge of society shooting at them. i hope that those marines take down all of those lame fucks.

any plans? anybody know what they are going to be doing in the immediate weeks? I'm glad to hear everyone is doing okay, but i'm starting to wonder what the heck is going to happen next. New Orleans looks like a warzone. Here's a livejournal from some guys at directnic (internet hosting company and registrar located inside new orleans) that are still operating from inside the city. http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/
Pretty scary stuff. Obviously, we wont be able to go back to NOLA for quite some time. Anyone have any plans? We might head back to Baton Rouge or try to brave the interstates and head to mississippi to stay with my parents for awhile.
